What’s to Come and Fun Times with GPS

I have been spending some of my downtime lately with my coffee break game of choice: Final Fantasy VII – Crisis Core and sadly… I am already close to beating it, but here’s the caveat. I got to the end game part within 13 hours with Zack at L30. The combat phases are getting hard, but it has forced me to take up some of the “Missions” from the internal menu to seek leveling up. My equipment has been sparse but then again, I have been relying on in-game story drops rather than the premium mission drops. When I finish Crisis Core (probably soon) expect me to write it up. All I can say about Crisis Core is… If you haven’t played Final Fantasy VII on Playstation or PC AND watched Advent Children, Crisis Core may not have as big an impact on you. It brings one of the greatest Final Fantasy stories to a complete close. Luckily, Dirge of Cerberus for PS2 is not required “material” to play to understand Crisis Core.

Yesterday, I finally got to try out my GPS on the road but without a car mount, it was more being navigated by audio. When I got a chance to glance at my GPS, it was rather accurate. My speed was exact to my speedometer and all the road information was rather detailed. I don’t know why I didn’t get on the GPS deal sooner, ’cause it’s rather useful in pinch situations. Just I have one new problem to solve… Getting a car windshield mount, external GPS antenna, and car charger to enhance my use and benefit of GPS. Guess I’ll be saving my pennies for all that after my 8GB microSD card. 😉

Death Phone Acquired – Write-up will commence soon!

I bid farewell to my P990i for an AT&T Tilt and it is well worth it! It was however a suicidal mistake to be up since 4am doing all the hacks and tweaks to get it all running.

I have been coping with some personal problems, so I know I haven’t been documenting my workout’s as of late, but most of them have been gut-buster sets on intermittent days. I’ll probably do a super set tonight before my super write-up.

Tech Teaser: Crossloop (VNC Client) Review Coming Soon!

Unfortunately, I don’t have screenshots… so you all will have to bear through a technical review, unless someone wants to be a “tester” so I can capture images or ask you to do so. If you all are wondering what I am doing up late… Had a bad nightmare and I am a little amped from it. Keep a watch here, cause I will post it as soon as I can hammer it out.

Under the Knife – Suzaku’s Upgrade Teaser

So my computer’s steroid injection came in at 6:07pm… I am fucking stoked… Time to rip my machine to pieces to install! I’ll post with results!

Teaser Update: The install literally took me 2 minutes and on rebooting… the BIOS had a comical message “It appears you have increased memory” More benchmarks later and all after my gig!

Second Update: I am a bit exhausted from my side gig and the paid dinner from it… so if you folks can sweat out another day… then well… Check the blog after 5:30pm! Promise!

A Distro Testing Teaser…

Virtual Box Running DSL

Click the above thumbnail for the original!

Notice something? I am running VirtualBox inside of my Ubuntu install to try playing around and testing it. Some distributions run great for me with only allocating 128mb of RAM, but it can be a tad straining on my machine with only being loaded up with 512mb of RAM. After the new RAM install and Suzaku toting 2GB, that should change things where I can run more distributions without taxing the main system. Hopefully, this should allow me to capture better images of the distributions I hope to try out and test.

A Boring but Possibly Productive Weekend

Well… with most of my plans in shambles, it gives me time to try to get some important things done for the site and as well as generate fresh new content. Here’s a run-down of what all is to come possibly with the following days and even into next month:

  • My book review of Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson
  • My evaluation of Puppy Linux 3.01 – Seamonkey
  • (Possible) Evaluation of Damn Small Linux
  • Introspective on the semantics of “best friends”
  • Notes and “diary” of doing a charity laptop project (Negotiations in the works)
  • Devil’s Physical: The 60,000 Mile Maintenance Event
  • Picking up a Callpod Dragon Extreme Bluetooth headset to evaluate and review
  • Funny adventures with my cousin Sol’s return to Dallas for Spring Break
  • Tips for the poor college student avoiding debt
  • The return of my retuned workout logs

It looks like a lot, but that should be my next set of things to post, rant, vent, and discuss until I get my hands on the consumer release of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 communicator. Apparently some sources strewn about the web from XDA Developers’ forums have made claim that the processor for the XPERIA X1 is a Qualcomm MSM7200a with a smaller die print and powered at 525mhz. The small footprint means potentially a power efficient processor, but higher power means it’ll be able to really show off. There are rumors about Windows Mobile 6.5 being debuted when the X1 hits retail shelves and possibly HTC releasing their ODM version of the X1 branded with their own name… It’s a damn shame that the device won’t come out sooner, because I’d love to really have some fun with a new phone.

Book Review Soon to Come: “Snow Crash” by Neal Stephenson

I must thank my good friend Russ (custom local jeweler – Dare2Dream) for passing me “Snow Crash” to read. I have been rather addicted to reading it when I am on my lunch breaks at work and well… It makes my vision of dreams more than plausible. It’s one that any computer or internet geek should read, because it almost paints a picture of what the internet could/should be in a decade or two. I have had days where the ‘net just seems no fun to me so “Snow Crash” is a rather nice way to wind down before bed. Keep a look out for the blog and my thoughts on a great book.

Technology Review Teaser: Doing a Network Overhaul

Tonight I did one of the best things I could have with my free time tonight… It has made my internet experience even faster and more streamlined as possible. It took some bravery and logic, but it is well worth it. I turned an old Buffalo WBR2-G54 that my parents bought back in 2002 and turned it into a $600 super router with a hack to use the Tomato firmware. To sweeten up the speeds, I changed my DNS addresses to OpenDNS’s numbers for a much more clean experience.

I’ll go into more detail about my install as well as provide advice and tips about things tomorrow. Keep your eyes out until then!

Tech Review Teaser: openSUSE Powered KDE 4 Live CD

I am currently downloading the KDE 4 Live CD in hopes of giving it a test drive and review. I have been more of a Gnome user, but I am no stranger to KDE’s interface. I will assure readers that I will leave my Gnome mindset in a vault and try to focus on the mindset of a KDE 3.5.7 user as that was what my family’s former Kubuntu machine was. This build is apparently a “final” build that should be shipping with distros like openSUSE and Mandriva, so I am definitely looking forward to the experience. With things like the Oxygen artwork and Plasma powering KDE 4, it should prove to be a fun trip. I have been looking forward to what KDE 4 has to offer for the user experience and all the concept stuff has impressed me a good deal.

Now, if the download for the KDE 4 Live CD could finish… we’d be in business.

Wine Review Teaser

From Wednesday night, I had the flight of Cabernet Sauvignons from The Parlour Wine Bar when I went to drink with my friend and cheer them up. It was a unique test in flavors and had quite a bold finish towards the end. I’ll throw it online tonight when I get a chance after work. The ambiance and mood of the site was quaint enough to provide me just the concentration to focus on savoring the flavors from the wine and it was well worth the time that I had spent there.
